Japanese Hickory Puckered Herringbone Plaid Fabric

Fabric Description

When it comes to casual plaids, nobody does it better than the Japanese. This one is about as unique as they come--a subtle herringbone weave and low contrast, tonal colors set the foundation. What takes this into a new realm is the special puckered yarn that's woven into the pattern. Since the yarn is polyester, it shrinks differently than the rest of the cotton, resulting is an intentionally wrinkled and puckered look. Keep in mind--you must iron this shirt. In a traditional laundry cycle, the puckered yarn will shrink up beyond what looks good. Only once the shirt is pressed does it get the appropriated puckering that you'll love.

Rather than using fine high thread count fabrics like the Italians, the Japanese have mastered the art of more casual low thread count cottons to create beautiful casual fabrics like this. The 40s single-ply twill comes in soft and only improves the more its worn and washed. We suggest a Soft President Spread collar, soft cuff, and soft placket on this shirt.

  • Cool idea, but extremely wrinkled. Get tired of the look over time.

  • This is a very interesting fabric and one that certainly catches one's eye. It is light/airy which is good for me as I live in Mobile, AL (very hot humid). NOTE to ProperCloth: please go back to the brass/metal collar stays as opposed to the plastic. Great shirt that I definitely recommend

  • It's a bugger to iron, but looks and feels great once it's done.

  • Not for everyone- but this is a near flannel type shirt I plan on wearing during the weekends. Extremely comfortable and gets better with age.
