Garment dyed fabrics are known for their uniquely faded, broken-in look and feel. They’re like those great vintage shirts that are passed down to you, only they don’t need the years of wash and wear to get that perfect vintage feel—and they’re made to fit you perfectly. Our raw cotton and linen oxford is prepared for the dye process, then cut and sewn by our production team, and finally sent to our best-in-class wash house to be dyed and washed. In addition to achieving the perfect shade of sun-faded sky blue, the process imparts an incredible softness to the fabric so it feels just as relaxed and comfortable as it looks. The seams will have a wonderful faded and puckered look that would take years to achieve otherwise. The 55% cotton/45% linen blend we developed with our favorite Portuguese mill breathes incredibly well while retaining the substantial feel of a classic oxford weave, and it has a bit of slub from the linen which gives it an extra bit of texture and character. A wonderfully breathable 3-season weight, expect this one to become a go-to weekend shirt. Pair it with everything from a linen suit to worn denim to swim trunks.

“The idea of pre-washing Oxford shirts to give them softness and patina is a good one, but I'm not sure that garment-dyeing is a good idea. One of the visual trademarks of Oxford cloth is the contrast between the warp and the weft and garment-dying eliminates that. My suggestion? Proper Cloth should offer garment-washed Oxford shirts (similar to your Washed Indigo offerings, just not indigo) instead of garment dyed.”
