Authentic Indian madras reinterpreted for the modern wardrobe.

Prized for its breathability, lightness, and distinctive look, madras is an absolute warm-weather staple. Ours is woven in Chennai, India, with a 40s single-ply plain weave construction that makes for an incredibly soft and airy feel. Madras fabrics were originally dyed with bright, colorful vegetable dyes that, when laundered, would "bleed," resulting in shirts with more subdued tones and a faded appearance. This bleeding inadvertently created the traditional madras look we’re familiar with today. Our madras shirts are designed to have just the right amount of fade right off the bat so they won't bleed when you wash them at home. This combination of red, brown, and green is layered with blue, yellow, and white in an intricate plaid that makes for a unique yet timeless style. This fabric makes a particularly fun Camp shirt to wear with jeans or linen blend chinos in the summer.

Recommended Styling: Our Camp collar, Angled pocket, and Slate Horn buttons on a short sleeve shirt is a classic look. For something a little more collegiate, go with our Colorado Button Down collar and Soft Front placket.
