Authentic Indian madras reinterpreted for the modern wardrobe.

Prized for its breathability, lightness, and distinctive look, madras is an absolute warm-weather staple. This one is woven in Chennai, India, with a 40s single-ply plain weave construction that makes for an incredibly soft and airy feel. Madras fabrics were originally dyed with bright, colorful vegetable dyes that, when laundered, would "bleed," resulting in shirts with more subdued tones and a faded appearance. This bleeding inadvertently created the traditional madras look we’re familiar with today. Our madras shirts are designed to have just the right amount of fade right off the bat so they won't bleed when you wash them at home. This rich combination of navy, berry red, and yellow in an intricate plaid makes for a unique yet timeless style that works perfectly as either a long or short sleeve shirt. Dress it down with jeans or shorts and sneakers, or try it with a linen suit and espadrilles.
