Japanese Cotton and Linen Indigo Fabric

Fabric Description

A lightweight cotton and linen blend in a deep indigo blue.

This 11s single-ply cotton and linen plain weave has a pronounced texture and is softer than pure linen. It’s the kind of shirt you can wear from spring through fall, given that the 45% cotton/55% linen combination provides breathability and enough substance to work comfortably in both sweltering and mild temperatures. The deep, rich blue shade is particularly saturated and even, though it will fade a bit with washing over the years. The color is achieved through the reaction of the indigo dye with a heavy bleach wash.

From sourcing the perfect denim from a 185-year-old mill in Italy to testing washes with our factory for months on end, we labor over every detail of our washed indigo shirts. Each of them starts out as a plain or textured weave fabric that’s been dyed heavily with indigo. After being cut and sewn, the shirts are then garment washed using either a light enzyme, soda, or bleaching process. It‘s this process that gives each shirt its beautiful color and unique fading around the seams. While garment washed indigo and denim shirts are a popular product in the ready-to-wear market, they haven‘t previously been available in a custom fit or design due to the bulk production required for the washing process. We‘ve worked closely with our suppliers to bring you the first truly custom garment washed indigo and denim shirts on the market. Premium, carefully crafted shirts, made to your exact specifications. Recommended Styling: Go with our Soft Ivy Button Down collar, Soft Front placket, and Slate Horn buttons for a versatile casual look. Note that, due to the special nature of the garment washing process, this fabric can only be made using soft, unfused collars, cuffs, and fronts/plackets.

Since our limited-run garment washed indigo and denim fabrics are made in small batches with a special process, we guarantee delivery by August 17th, 2021. Fabric swatches are not available.

  • I loved this shirt. It is one of my absolute favorites!

November 2021  ·  Gianfranco in Brentwood, TN

  • My favorite denim/linen shirt from the Indigo collection. Highlyyyyy recommend!!!! Not like a typical denim--perfect for Texas and the heat or winter.

October 2021  ·  Will in Fort Worth, TX

  • It’s decent. But a bit too stiff. Hangs well.

September 2021  ·  Reuel in BETHESDA, MD

  • I can't rate this high enough...exceeded my expectations, which were already fairly high.

September 2021  ·  Joe in CLEVELAND, OH

  • Great colour but less of a denim than I wanted. Linen makes it shrink a bit and gives it a softer quality that dresses it further down. Wouldnt get another and prefer the more denimy denim I purchased in an earlier batch.

September 2021  ·  Liam in Montreal, Quebec

  • Great fabric... subtracted one star because in the factory washing process shrank significantly. Not to the point where it doesn't fit, but I ordered a looser fit than usual. I think more shrink allowance is needed for this fabric/process. I have ordered other shirts in this size profile and can tell directly this has shrunk more.

August 2021  ·  Kristofer in Hockessin, DE

August 2021  ·  Isaac in MINNEAPOLIS, MN

  • The fabric was heavier than expected but had nice drape.

August 2021  ·  Christian in Houston, TX

  • The fabric was exactly as I expected.

August 2021  ·  James in Narrabundah, ACT

  • Great colour and texture, but creases easily

August 2021  ·  david in Fitzroy, Victoria

  • The depth of color is gorgeous. The feel and drape are very nice. As some have noted it is thicker than expected--a lot like a light denim shirt in weight, so while I think I will wear it nonstop this fall I am letting it hang next to the chambray (which it is even a bit thicker than) and sticking to the Madras. If you worked in an air conditioned setting this might not be an issue, but with the dark color it s a no go for our newly-steamed outdoor summer life in the Pacific Northwest. That said, if you can get one, do get one. Summer does not last forever.

August 2021  ·  Dale in Corvallis, OR

  • Exactly what I expected. Top quality with a perfect fit

August 2021  ·  Timothy in Winter Park, CO
