Albini Washed Ocean Blue Linen Hopsack Fabric

Description

Fabric Description

A unique summer fabric with beautiful texture.

This 15s single-ply linen hopsack from the renowned Albini mill is made with thicker linen yarns for extra heft and a better drape, and washed for a softer hand. The yarns’ thickness emphasizes the natural irregularities in the linen and creates beautiful texture while maintaining the material’s characteristic comfort in the heat. Keep in mind that linen’s wrinkle-prone nature is part of its charm; don't worry about pressing it—just let it look well-worn and relaxed. We find that our linen shirts only get better the more they're washed and worn, so you’re sure to love this one even more as time goes on. This warm sienna red is woven through with navy, giving it a dimensional yet still subdued look. It’s a neutral that stands out from the pack.

Recommended Styling: Stick to soft details. We love this one with workwear-inspired styling—our Soft Point collar, Soft Front placket, and Rounded Flap pockets. Mother of pearl buttons will give it a particularly sophisticated edge.

  • This one was a real sleeper. The color and texture are just perfect for a kind of understated, sturdy gravitas. The material feels rather thick, but still quite light. It hasn't gotten warm yet here in New England, so I don't know how it will handle the usually revolting thick, humid summers we get, but I have a feeling it will really shine.

May 2022  ·  Benjamin in Brooklyn, NY

  • Although a heavy drape w/ uprolled sleeves, it's a current warm weather favourite. Nice colour, texture and breath ability. Less coarse after 4+ washes and fading.

April 2022  ·  William in Hendra, QLD

  • looked cooler in the online professional photos than in real life

  • The fabric is beautiful. Hangs nicely when worn, and, though new, I expect it'll hold up well over time.

April 2022  ·  Peter in Madison, CT

  • Great unique pattern. Looks a bit fragile but time will tell. Beautiful greyish blue color. One of my favorite linen shirts.

April 2022  ·  Richard in Houston, TX

  • Love it.

February 2022  ·  Joseph in Syosset, NY

  • Slightly transparent due to open weave, but otherwise a unique and beautiful fabric in a deep, saturated color. There is minimal shrinkage and the size is comparable to other shirts from Proper Cloth.

February 2022  ·  Nicholas in SAN FRANCISCO, CA

  • Took some getting used to - it's an unusual fabric for a shirt. But it actually looks great and works with a variety of looks. Can't really dress it up, but it never looks sloppy either.

February 2022  ·  Thomas in NEW ORLEANS, LA

  • Very nice fabric.

January 2022  ·  Zac in STERLING, VA

  • Great fabric with some weight and nice drape

December 2021  ·  Didier in Coconut Grove, FL

  • Thicker than my previous linen and linen-cotton shirts, but the weave allows extra airflow. Hopsack shirt with a hopsack sport coat in the summer? Chef’s kiss!

November 2021  ·  Hans Mikhail in BELTSVILLE, MD

  • Wow, I love this fabric. Has a bit of heft but the linen keeps it from getting too hot, looks great, I was surprised that after washing and hanging minimal wrinkles- most of the time I wear this after it has hung and dried and don't have to use an iron

  • Incredibly comfortable. The fabric breathes but is quite durable.

October 2020  ·  Doug in Frankfort, IL

  • Linen blend. Wrinkles as expected but as intended. Breathable but substantial fabric. Can see through when held up to the light. Five stars for comfort wrinkle resistance and opacity because it’s as described in the fabric description and as expected.

October 2020  ·  Elisabeth in O Fallon, IL

  • Beautiful linen fabric and great color!

October 2020  ·  JACK in MALIBU, CA

  • A beautiful textured fabric. Softens with wash and wear and drapes well.

September 2020  ·  Ian in Rochester, MN

  • Linen that's a bit heavier than typical and so probably not the best in particularly hot/humid places but good year rounder. Texture is pronounced and interesting. Color is lighter than pics though. It's more of a light-ish blue really.
