Tips for Short Sleeve Custom Shirts

General Custom Short Sleeve Shirt Tips

Custom short sleeve shirts are a great way to elevate your casual style. We’ve made it easy to get a great-fitting short sleeve shirt and to customize it.

  • Before ordering a custom short sleeve shirt from Proper Cloth:
  • The easiest way to create a custom short sleeve shirt size is to convert a casual untucked (long sleeve) size to a short sleeve untucked size
  • For a slim, modern looking short sleeve shirt silhouette, a short and slim short sleeve is ideal
  • Some might consider shortening their Shirt Length another 0.5” from their long sleeve untucked size. This is not mandatory and is purely up to the customer’s preferences.

Short Sleeve Length

  • For a slim, modern appearance, generally the Short Sleeve Length should be set to the minimum value possible. For taller and slimmer than average customers, an additional 0.5 to 1” (from the minimum Short Sleeve Length value possible) may be added for a balanced look.
  • For a classic camp shirt’ or Hawaiian shirt look, increase the Short Sleeve Length 1-2” from the minimum value. 1” works for those of short to average height. 1.5” for those on the taller side. 2” for those that want their short sleeve to hit their elbow.
  • Measured from the edge of the shoulder/yoke, down to the end of the short sleeve hem

Short Sleeve Width

Short Sleeve Opening Width

  • For a slim appearance, the Short Sleeve Opening Width should be set about 0.5” to 1.0” smaller than the Short Sleeve Width
  • For a classic, looser fitting short sleeve shirt (camp shirt, classic Hawaiian shirt, etc.) setting the Short Sleeve Opening Width to only 0.25” to 0.5” smaller than the Short Sleeve Width is the move
