How to Measure a Shirt: Collar Around

Unbutton the shirt and spread it out on its back. Place one end of the measuring tape at the center of the button where the button stitching comes through to the inside of the collar band. Pull the collar tight so that any curve to the collar band becomes straight.   Measure straight across the collar band to the far edge of the button hole. Round to the nearest ¼ inch.

Do not add extra to account for shrinkage. We will do that for you.*

*Standard Shrinkage Allowance:

Proper Cloth adds 0.625” to the Collar Around dimension to account for shrinkage.

A shirt ordered with a 16.0” Collar Around will measure 16.625” out of the box.

Extra Shrinkage Allowance:

For a shirt with an Extra Shrinkage allowance of 2% (for example), a shirt ordered with a 16.0” Collar Around will measure (16.0 + 0.625”) * (100% + 2%), amounting to 17.0” out of the box.

Tolerance:
While we do our best to sew each garment precisely to its specification every time, hand sewing and different fabric types naturally result in small variations. We consider a tolerance of +0.25” to -0.125” acceptable for the Collar Around dimension.
