Five Shirt Mistakes You
 Need To Stop Making

By Ian King — Apr 3, 2019

Your shirt is often the most visible part of your outfit, and how it fits says a lot. Make the best first impression by avoiding these common mistakes.

  1. 1

Collar Too Tight Or Too Loose

A visible gap between your neck and your collar makes it look like you’re wearing your bigger brother’s hand-me-downs. Conversely, if you can’t button the top button without restricting blood flow, you won’t be able to think clearly in those job interviews.

  2. 2

Sleeves Too Long Or Too Short

Too long and your cuffs will slide over your hand and bunch at the wrist for a frumpy look. Too short and whenever you reach forward your sleeve will pull back uncomfortably on your forearm. Not to mention you won’t show any cuff with a jacket.

  3. 3

    Midsection Too Baggy

If you’re an athletic guy it’s almost certain that your shirts are too baggy around the waist. When tucked in, this produces the infamous and unflattering “muffin-top” effect. You look both out of shape and careless in your appearance.

  4. 4

Shirt Too Long To Wear Untucked

It’s 2024 and we don’t always tuck our shirts in. But if your dress shirt comes down past the center of your rear pockets, its probably too long to wear untucked. This makes you look shorter than you are and your silhouette less athletic.

  5. 5

Shirt Too Short To Stay Tucked In

If you do tuck your shirts in, nothing is worse than having the shirt tails constantly come untucked. You keep trying to tuck them back in, but whenever you move they slowly creep out again. What you need is a longer shirt body that can tuck more securely.
