The Proper Cloth <\/span>rule of thumb holds that a jacket sleeve should <\/span>expose 0.25\u201d- 0.50\u201d of your dress shirt cuff for a stylish<\/span>, universally appropriate<\/span> look<\/span>. <\/span>I<\/span>f your personal style <\/span>is more on the traditional or classic side or you\u2019re wearing the jacket <\/span>i<\/span>n<\/span> a more conservative business setting<\/span>,<\/span> 0.125\u201d or no shirt cuff at all<\/span> is suitable<\/span>. If your personal style <\/span>or the setting <\/span>is more fashion<\/span>–<\/span>forward\/trendy, 0.5\u201d- 0.75\u201d <\/span>of <\/span>shirt cuff<\/span> is generally accepted. The jacket sleeve length should never pass the heel of your palm regardless of how much shirt cuff you choose to show.<\/span><\/p>\n

With your arms relaxed at your sides, you should not see more than 1.00\u201d of <\/span>the<\/span> shirt sleeve cuff. Fashion<\/span>–<\/span>forward gentlemen who want to show more cuff can use the cuff buttons as a reference point. The jacket<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s sleeves should <\/span>be long enough to <\/span>completely cover the buttons of the shirt cuff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If the jacket sleeves cover your palms when your arms are relaxed at your sides, you will want to decrease the jacket sleeve length.<\/b><\/span> G<\/span>entlemen who <\/span>have a more classic style or <\/span>want to show little to no cuff can use the <\/span>end of the <\/span>shirt sleeve as reference. The jacket sleeves should be either the same length as the shirt sleeve or 0.125\u201d shorter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local Tailoring: Can a tailor adjust my jacket sleeve length?<\/h2>\n

Having a local tailor alter the sleeve length of your Proper Cloth jacket is simple. Our jacket sleeves can be increased by up to 0.75\u201d or decreased by up to 0.5\u201d by a local tailor. Because our garments come with functioning buttons on the sleeve, lengthening or decreasing the sleeves by any more than this is not recommended. <\/span>For alterations requiring more dramatic changes to the fit, we recommend submitting a Fit Advice Request<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jacket Sleeve vs. Shirt Sleeve Measurements: Why are they different?<\/h2>\n

We take the jacket and shirt sleeve measurements from different parts of the garments. <\/span>For this reason, your j<\/span>acket\u2019s sleeve length will<\/span> be much shorter than your shirt\u2019s sleeve length. <\/span>The <\/span>Jacket Sleeve Length<\/b><\/span> is <\/span>measured<\/span> from the top of the sleeve, where the armhole meets the shoulder seam, down to the end of the <\/span>jacket sleeve<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The <\/span>Shirt Sleeve Length<\/b><\/span> is taken from the center back <\/span>of the <\/span>shoulder, <\/span>at the base of the neck just under the shirt collar<\/span>, <\/span>extending to<\/span> the shoulder <\/span>seam and down the arm<\/span> to the end of the sleeve cuff.\u00a0<\/span>Since the<\/span> jacket sleeve measurement does not include the center back <\/span>of the <\/span>shoulder to e<\/span>nd<\/span> of shoulder, it will be always shorter than the shirt sleeve length measurement.<\/span><\/p>\n

If your arms are not <\/span>the same length<\/span> or your shoulders are a bit uneven, we can set two different sleeve lengths for your jacket size.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
