Portuguese Black Seersucker Fabric

Fabric Description

There’s nothing like a fine seersucker fabric to get you through the dog days of summer. Widely worn in the hot, muggy South, seersucker’s special uneven puckering qualities gives it less surface area contact against the skin, increasing airflow under the shirt and allowing heat to dissipate more quickly. This classic seersucker stripe is woven in Portugal in a beautiful, deep black colorway—a stylish downtown update to the classic white seersucker. We love a Soft President Spread or Soft Ivy BD collar on these and don't be shy to give it short sleeves and make it your new beach shirt. Due to the special nature of seersucker fabrics, they can only be made using soft, unfused collars and cuffs.

May 2021  ·  Anthony in Lolo, MT

  • Not as light and breathable as expected. A bit stiffer over time, not softer.

  • nice

November 2018  ·  Douglas in Palm City, FL

  • Excellent shirt but it has a tendency to get still. I'd prefer it a little lighter.

June 2018  ·  Eli in DAVIE, FL

  • Very unique. I'd love to have other items, shorts etc made from it.

April 2018  ·  Frank in Charlotte, NC

March 2018  ·  Sayad in Hollis, NY

  • Looked and felt great initially, but the color isn't holding up to wear as well as I'd have liked.

February 2018  ·  Robert in Huntington Beach, CA

  • This has become one of my favorite shirts, and a rare one that I get comments on often. People notice the texture and comment and then seem surprised when I tell them it's seersucker. It's held up nicely and it's really comfortable. It looks great untucked with jeans or used more as a business casual shirt.

August 2017  ·  Tim in Fayetteville, AR

  • tops in look and versatility

August 2017  ·  Burt in Pacific Palisades, CA

  • Perfect for summer days, very breathable. Excellent fabric appearance. Black fades quickly though.

June 2017  ·  Nabil in Sylvan Lake, AB

  • Nice textured fabric

April 2017  ·  Joe in Manhasset, NY

  • The fabric is very airy, like nothing I've worn before. I have to live with it awhile to see if I have any concerns but initially it is just as good as any of the other Proper Cloth items I've purchased before. My concern is will it retain its deep black color over time.

March 2017  ·  Rob in Merritt Island, FL

  • It's going to be amazing for summer and an upcoming trip I have to the Caribbean.

December 2016  ·  Bruce in Cincinnati, OH

  • Very nice informal fabric that can be worn in many situations.

November 2016  ·  ALEX in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire

  • Crisp feel out of the box. Comfortable to wear in office. Will need to wash and wear a few more times to see if it softens up or stays "crispy". But so worth the investment.

  • Great shirt

September 2016  ·  Erik in Allen, TX

  • Great fabric and feel. Color is great.

September 2016  ·  Casey in PHOENIX, AZ

  • Awesome fabric for a casual shirt. You may want to add a pinch to the shirt width as the is my 2nd seersucker through PC and both fit very narrow even with cold water washing and hang dry.

September 2016  ·  Chad in Atlanta, GA

  • I like this material very well, so far. I will continue to evaluate it as my wear and laundry impact it.

August 2016  ·  Craig in Portland, OR

  • Now this is a very unique and good-looking fabric. NO ONE will be wearing anything like this in my zip code! Truly unique -- can be ironed/pressed by cleaners or just washed and hang-dried. Beautiful, with every detail -- added 1/2" for decorative watch clearance on left cuff this time -- It rocks!!
