Careers at Proper Cloth

See Open Positions

Our vision is to build the most loved menswear brand in America — a true modern luxury brand — defined by exceptional quality, personalized fit, and remarkable service.

We believe luxury isn’t about logos, high prices, or exclusivity. True luxury is about beautifully designed, exceptionally well-made clothing, custom-fit to you, paired with concierge-level service that supports you every step of the way.

Our Culture

Proper Cloth is a unique company with a unique culture. Bootstrapped, founder-led, and now in our 18th year, we’re leaders in our category and still growing. Today we have over 100 employees, mostly in New York. In may ways we operate at the intersection of a fashion brand and a tech startup, but we’re proud to be free from the cut-throat politics of the fashion industry and the machismo of venture backed startups.

Describing culture is never easy, but here are a few points on what we value as a company, and how we work as a team.

Striving for Greatness

We’re united in our desire to be the best we can be. As designers, engineers, leaders, and service professionals we’re all striving to fulfill our potential. We want to make the best products we can, to provide the best service we can, and to build the best company we can. And it’s only through focus, discipline, and hard work that we can realize these ambitions.

Kindness

We treat each other with respect. We keep conversations polite. We practice humility. We give our team members, customers, and partners the benefit of the doubt. We address problems and setbacks directly, but still, with compassion and patience.

Detail-Oriented

We believe that details matter. This influences everything we do, from the ability to adjust custom sizes by 0.1″ increments, to the precise curve of a collar, to the handshake when you walk into one of our showrooms. We’re constantly refining the small details, because we want everything, from our products to our experience, to be as good as it can be.

Technology-Enabled

We’re committed to using technology to improve the customer experience and streamline internal workflows. We thrive on building tools that increase our teams productivity. Technology helps us save time on repetitive tasks and creates space for more creative thinking and a personal touch.

Sales & Customer Experience Team (4)

There’s a good reason we have over 150,000 5-star ratings: our incredible customer experience team. We’re a fun group, full of energy and stories. Every customer experience team member must go through our intensive training program to become an expert on shirting fabrics, styles and how to make a custom shirt fit perfectly. It’s a rigorous program because the customer experience team is standing by to answer the most particular questions about men’s clothing, to provide personalized style advice, to help customers create and tune their custom sizes, and to provide whatever support customers may need.

Job Description:

This role reports directly to the Head of Engineering and will work closely with our team of two developers. Communication will be primarily on Slack, Google Meet, Email and via Google Docs. We typically deploy site updates weekly, with major releases every 2 weeks.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the engineering team to test site updates (both customer facing web experience and internal backend tools) before they are deployed to production.
    • Develop test plans in advance of major releases.
    • Manually verify development changes meet requirements, are user-friendly, and bug-free.
    • Find, isolate, clearly document, and track bugs through resolution
  • Help investigate and document reported bugs on production.
  • Provide internal support to employees experiencing trouble using company tools.
  • Help Product Manager refine and clarify design specifications prior to development.
Required:
  • 5+ years experience in a technical QA role.
  • Proven track record finding, isolating, and clearly documenting defects others miss.
  • Hands-on with bug-tracking and test-case management tools (e.g., Jira/Linear, TestRail or equivalent).
  • Comfortable testing complex ecommerce flows end to end, including checkout and payment.
  • Knowledge of the differences between frontend and backend technologies/languages.
  • Browser DevTools fluency (Chrome Developer Tools) and big plus - the ability to write basic SQL to verify data and reproduce issues.
  • Clear written communication - your bug reports are read by engineers and product alike.
Nice to Have
  • Experience introducing or building test automation (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium).
  • Familiarity with the e-commerce or luxury/apparel space.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in an engineering or technical field (not required).
Why This Role

You'll have a direct, visible impact on a category-defining brand at the inflection point of its next phase, working with a small, collaborative team that takes craft seriously — in code as much as in clothing.

Benefits
  • Full healthcare benefits (medical, dental, vision, life)
  • Access to OneMedical Membership
  • Generous clothing allowance and discount
  • Competitive 401(k) with match
  • Salary Range of $120k - $145k

Marketing Team

At Proper Cloth, we’re creating the first true modern luxury brand. A brand rooted in the fundamentals of incredibly high quality products, personalized fit, and concierge level service. We look up to companies like Tesla and Apple that have combined technology and design for beautiful, functional products, as well as the great menswear brands of the past. We’ve worked hard to create the best-in-class men’s custom clothing offering in the world, but it takes a great marketing team to spread the word.
