A bengal stripe is a particular type of wider-striped dress shirt fabric, most often featuring an even 1/4″ alternating stripe. It can either be a color and white or color and color stripe and sits on the bolder end of the stripe spectrum.
Though not as wide, or as bold, as an awning stripe, the bengal stipe is probably the widest you’d want to consider for business wear. It has a distinct Wall Street vibe and is often paired with a contrast collar.
Bengal stripes tend to look best when paired with a solid or patterned suit and tie. While you can wear a striped tie, you’ll want to pick something with a large stripe or else it might be visually distracting.
